About the Global Climate Network

Some of the world’s brightest thinkers on climate change policy and politics in leading research institutes around the world are now working together in the Global Climate Network, which aims to bridge the divide between that national and global politics of climate change.

Collectively, members are committed to the vision of a prosperous and secure world in which greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced to a level that is no longer harmful to the climate system. The Global Climate Network will help construct a narrative for action on climate change that is concerned with human and economic as well as environmental wellbeing.

The logic is simple. Individually, each member organisation is capable of first class research and has authority and credibility with its government’s decision makers. Acting collectively, the same organisations can pool their skills and influence in the Network, which can have an impact that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Although the secretariat is based at ippr in central London, the Global Climate Network is not owned by any one member; it is an open collaboration of like-minded institutes and think tanks in countries key to successful international action on climate change.

Members are engaged jointly in a programme of research projects, the results of which each member aims to feed into domestic policy making. Members also communicate the results of research and stimulate discussion of climate change policy through a programme of events.
