US stimulus creates green jobs

19 January 2010

The clean energy investment in President Obama's recovery or stimulus act has saved or created an estimated 63,000 jobs and this total is expected to rise to as many as 700,000 once all the measures are in place.

The statistics, which will give a boost to the US's strategy on providing finance to clean energy initiatives are contained in a quarterly report to Congress on the economic stimulus prepared by the President's Council of Economic Advisers.

The report also highlights the success in macro-economic terms of the Obama stimulus initiative. It estimates that it added between 2 and 3 percentage points to real GDP growth in the second quarter of 2009 and between 3 and 4 percentage points in the third quarter when the US economy began to recover.
