One Year After Recovery: US Jobs saved and created

17 February 2010

One year on, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has already saved or created approximately 1.8 million jobs nationwide and will continue to create more jobs as infrastructure projects ramp up in the next year, according to new analysis from Washington DC.

The GCN's US partner, Center for American Progress, has released a state-by-state analysis of the positive effects of the stimulus on jobs. The ARRA was signed into law by President Obama on 17 February 2009 and included a mixture of tax cuts for business and familites, public infrastructure development and investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Yet the recession proved to be far worse than originally thought and approximately 8.4 million Americans have lost their jobs in the recession. CAP have called for continued infrastructure investment and aid to state and local governments, as well better federal policy support for clean energy industries, to help overcome the jobs crisis.
